Who Would Win The 2012 Election If It Were Held Today?
Considering the fact that the 2012 election to win the Presidency is about just over a year from now, itÕs time to go through the ever-changing field of likely Conservative Candidates that will try and win in the race against President Obama.
Mitt Romney looks to be a favorite for the 2012 election . Once a popular Massachusetts governor and 08 Presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney at the age of 63 is still youthful, sharp, and brings an impressive background to bear. As far as the downside, his Mormonism plus the Massachusetts healthcare law (which is akin to President Obama's unpopular health reform plan) might turn voters away from Romney.
Sarah Palin burst to the GOP scene back in 08 when she came on as a VP candidate to running mate John McCailn, even though she successfully animated the GOP base, she also made a whole variety of now famous gaffes. Unfortunately, the gaffes caught on, and like Dan Quayle two decades before her time, Sarah Palin found herself branded, perhaps unfairly, for being unintelligent and not at all ÔPresidentialÕ. The fact that she quit her Alaska GovernorÕs job halfway through her term also doesnÕt say much to voters about her dedication to holding and performing the duties of a higher office. Taking all of this into consideration, plus her clear fame-mongering, it seems less and less likely that sheÕll actually make a 2012 election bid.
Mike Huckabee is one other popular contender from the Republicans for the 2012 election. This former AR governor and yet another 2008 candidate that did not make the cut, Huckabee was the GOP frontrunner for a long time over the course of the 2008 campaign, even without the same huge contributors that benefitted other candidates. Currently the host of his own show on FOX News, Huckabee remains popular with the GOP base and has also demonstrated his ability to run an efficient campaign. Successful fundraising will be the key for any Huckabee Presidential run.
Newt Gingrich has been a name in the Republican party for over twenty years, most famously during his tenure of Speaker of the House of Representatives during the Clinton Administration. Seen as visionary, well-educated and goal-minded, Gingrich's personal life has certainly been somewhat marred by a few extra-marital affairs and divorces along with his polarizing status with the general populace. That being said, Newt Gingrich is really a skilled grassroots organizer even though he's never made a Presidential run, his candidacy is certainly looking more and more of a sure bet.
Ron Paul, now at the age of 75, is the oldest of all of the likely 2012 election candidates, but heÕs got experience that many of the others donÕt since heÕs run for president before, one time as a Libertarian in 1988 and the next time as a Republican in 2008. Unfortunately, most of Ron Paul's views are looked upon as being too conservative, even for conservatives. On top of that, some of his supporters are so rabid and active that they are more intimidating than helpful to the campaign.
It's still too soon to be able to say with confidence who can emerge and become the conservative option for the 2012 election. Still, it will be an intriguing season definitely.

Jesus Is Magic (Explicit Version) $7.04 Jesus is Magic, the album that accompanies Sarah Silverman's highly touted and highly divisive stand-up film of the same name, nicely captures the comedian's edgy, pretty-girls-can't-say-that approach. Silverman's mix of absurd songs and brutally exacting observations swing between postmodern irony and unabashed potty humor in the blink of an eye. Whether tackling racial and gender stereotypes head-on ( Racist? ), skewering the most sacred of sacred cows, (like Ghandi and Mother Teresa on Nobody's Perfect ), or meditating on the nuances of anal sex ( Ron Jeremy ), Silverman's brand of comedy is as shockingly original as it hilariously classic. |

Magical American Jew: The enigma of difference in contemporary Jewish American short fiction and film. $49.99 Efforts to define contemporary Jewish American identity often reveal more questions than concrete articulations, more statements about what Jewish Americans are not than what they are. Such ambiguities pervade many works of Jewish American literature. Magical American Jew explores how certain writers and filmmakers have used magical realist techniques to portray the enigma of Jewish American difference. What I am characterizing as enigmatic is the indefinite yet undeniable difference that informs how many Jewish Americans envision themselves. In a felicitous way, magical realism also resists categorization. Marked by a "co-presence" of the natural and supernatural, magical realism allows past and present figures and traditions to converge in a narrative realm that is neither fantasy, science fiction, nor conventional realism. Following an Introduction that establishes the conceptual framework of the study, Chapter 1 opens with a discussion of Woody Allen's film Annie Hall, examining how magical realist techniques are used to illustrate a behavioral excess associated with Jewish American difference. Through analysis of Cynthia Ozick's short story "Levitation," Chapter 2 challenges the common association between Jews and guilt and posits shame as a more discerning lens through which to view Jewish American difference---a difference influenced by a history in which the Holocaust is a principal concern. Chapter 3 focuses on memory and the masochistic extreme that can be imagined when the Holocaust is marked as the center of Jewish identity. Continuing with the prominence of history, Chapter 4 analyzes Aimee Bender's short story "Dreaming in Polish" along with Leslie Marmon Silko's novel Ceremony, revealing antinomies and anomalous positions indicative of an enigmatic difference. Returning to the influence of media, the final chapter analyzes Sarah Silverman's film Jesus Is Magic, addressing how Silverman mobilizes her ethnic identity to |
