Billy: The Early Years Of Billy Graham

Billy: The Early Years Of Billy Graham

$6.50

The noted 20th-century American evangelist is the subject of this moving biodrama. The film traces Billy Graham’s life from his acceptance of Jesus during a North Carolina revival meeting in 1934 and his wooing of college sweetheart Ruth Bell to Graham’s early ministry with fellow preacher Charles Templeton, who would later leave the faith, and the 1949 Los Angeles crusades that earned him nationa…

Broadway – The Golden Age, by the Legends Who Were There

$6.64

It’s not a comprehensive survey of the American musical theater, but Broadway: The Golden Age, by the Legends Who Were There is an invaluable and moving salute to the art form composed of interviews with the people who were there in the 1940s through the 1960s. There are too many to list, but they include John Raitt, Angela Lansbury, Hume Cronyn, Kitty Carlisle Hart, Carol Channing, Jerry Orbach,…

The Adventures Of Pinocchio

The Adventures Of Pinocchio

$5.46

Apparently aimed at very small children and the simple-minded, adults may decide that the best aspect of this kiddie flick is the clamshell box with its dual image “Magic Action Art.” Though strong technically, the blend of digital effects, animation, mattes, and miniatures is eventually too much of a hodgepodge. The plot is a confusing jumble of classic fairy-tale elements and jarring contemporar…

Killing Cancer, A Tale About Fighting The Disease, By L. J. Martin

L.J. Martin, has announced the release of his new book, “Killing Cancer”. Martin’s book explores his battle with the deadly disease and how those with cancer can help their doctors kill the disease.

“Good attitude and mental toughness are a good part of the answer,” said Martin. “I can’t begin to tell you how many stories I have of misdiagnosis. Medicine is a science, but it’s not a perfect science. You want your doctor’s best educated guess, but you want it backed up with hard science. If you take no for an answer, then you can only blame yourself if you don’t stop the monster in its tracks.”

Killing Cancer is a valuable look at cancer from the patient’s point of view. Martin contracted prostate cancer and squamous throat cancer, and beat the odds for both. Prostate cancer kills 30,000 men each year in the U.S. Only 16% of people in Martin's age range survive throat cancer. Statistics show that 41 percent of the population will develop cancer at some time in their lives, and Martin’s book provides readers with an inside look at the emotions, tests, and treatment options that accompany the deadly disease.

The first indications of cancer can begin with the smallest of symptoms. Larry's ordeal with throat cancer started with what appeared to be only an infected lymph node on his neck, near his jaw. His first sign of prostate cancer manifested as an inability to hold his urine. Like many people, it wasn’t until seemingly unrelated symptoms appeared that he visited his physician, but even then, standard testing didn’t reveal a definite diagnosis. Throughout the book, Martin writes honestly and with humor about embarrassing examinations, coping with claustrophobia during MRIs, and learning patience while awaiting test results. He speaks candidly and eloquently about the shock and fear of hearing the word cancer, as well as the potential loss of his sex life. From herbal remedies, homeopathic solutions, radiation and surgery, Martin holds nothing back as recounts his battle with cancer and desire to win.

“It’s said we continually have cancer cells traipsing around trying to make mischief or worse,” said Martin. “All we can do is do what we hope will give our body every opportunity to do its best. To those with cancer, fight on, stay positive and do what you can to help your body help the docs keep you healthy.”

The 164-page book, “Killing Cancer,” is written in a friendly, easy to understand format that will give hope to anyone with cancer and those whose life has been touched by cancer. The book is available in paperback and Kindle editions at Amazon.com. Larry can be found on most social sites as well.
